What happened to the nightmare?

Where did the nightmare thread at Tavern on Green go? It was here last night. I thought it had good tips on big city life.

Oh, thanks, I can't get this site to work sometimes. I noticed some parts of the thread were deleted. One about a nightmare, that was funny, but mentioned Rex. oh that's why.

x Dec 27th, 2001 03:32 PM

I thought that the other nightmare was funny also, and they tried to lighten up a whiney kind of post...although I do remember the original poster backing down from the original "nightmare" story being not such a nightmare after all.

xxxx Dec 27th, 2001 03:51 PM

Yes, the nightmare parady was funny, didn't you think so Patrick? A little light hearted, nothing mean, so why did it get deleted. Was it the reference to Rex?

Patrick Dec 27th, 2001 04:01 PM

OK, what did I miss? You mean there was a parody of my "nightmare at Tavern on the Green" thread and I missed it??
I think it was amazing enough that I posted a simple little thing about a problem at Tavern on the Green and within a few days there were something like 40 responses. I guess the lesson here is to always use a word like "nightmare" in your post.

xxxxxx Dec 27th, 2001 05:00 PM

NO ,Patrick, the lesson here is to whine about New York and your friends being incapable of managing while out to lunch.(obviously in more ways than one).just thought I would pass that on...And you did read the parody because you posted a response and told how your friends said it was not such a nightmare after all.

OK, I guess I'm just dense. Where is a "parody" of the nightmare post? I just read through the entire list of responses to my original post and still don't see what I'd call a parody or any reference to Rex. Either it was deleted or I thought "x" was talking about "another nightmare" -- another entire post? I guess I just don't get what you're talking about here. And to xxxxxx the reference I made a week after the initial post saying that perhaps I had overstated the "nightmare" idea and that the girls were now laughing it off has nothing to do with my reading a "parody" just a continuation of the same thread.

Nancy Dec 27th, 2001 08:12 PM

Patrick, last night I read your nightmare thread and someone had posted a little parody on your thread about having a recurring nightmare using all the funny things that pop up on these threads, pink jogging suits, gypsies, etc. It was short but added some levity to your thread. This morning that response was deleted.

R Dec 28th, 2001 05:10 AM

Patrick, I read that parody also, it was light and funny. Also on that same thread was the post from you saying that you had visited with the 2 friends over the weekend and spoken to them about this post of yours and they laughed it off as not being such a nightmare after all.

NC Dec 28th, 2001 05:14 AM

I read Patricks first post and thought that all the responses were either from offended New Yorkers or from tourists who wanted to perpetuate the rude pushy New Yorker myth...I don't know what "tips" one would find on this thread, unless it was how to check or not check your coat, how to step off a curb and hail a taxi, things most people figure out immediately upon arriving in any big city.

xxxxx Dec 28th, 2001 09:46 AM

I don't think you realize, NC, how naive some people can be in the big city. Booking a restaurant across town and then expecting to make it to a play using a taxi would seem natural to someone not used to circumventing city problems. They may never had eaten anywhere other than Dairy Queen or Denny's then tried to make a movie at the local mall. This is a big country after all.

xxxxxxxx-you are right..I am just being obtuse :) When some people write in to this forum asking questions, I get the idea that they have a clue, regarding the simple things in life like hailing a cab, figuring out time constraints, etc, especially since we are always having friends and relatives visit from Europe and Asia and they never have these problems..in fact, most of the problems I hear about on this forum regarding managing in NYC,are problems I never hear about in person...but point well taken, it is a big country and just because we City mice think we know it all-it ain't neccessarily so:) Cheers! NC

Not the original nightmare, but where is it?

Brad Jan 24th, 2003 03:32 PM

I think it's still floating around down there in the nether regions. Some threads are poorly indexed and you must search for a uncommon word you remember from the body of the thread. I say this because I stumbled across it last year while looking for something else.

A box of CrackerJack to the first person to top it! :)
