What happened to my post about Fairbanks?

Yesterday I submitted a post asking about whether Fairbanks was worth it. A tour operator that I've been dealing with in Alaska has advised us to skip it. She says that we can do gold panning and other activities at Kantishna just as well as in Fairbanks, and that it's no great shakes. Any other opinions on this? Thanks.

We spent about a month in Alaska last summer. The two nights in Fairbanks would have been the easiest to give up!

Thanks for your reply, Patrick. I am thinking of skipping it. There's lots more to see in alaska than some touristy honky-tonk town!

I wouldn't skip Fairbanks. There is an awesome Museum at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks campus; Chena HotSprings, located about 60 miles out..there are a lot of hiking areas. I would not call it a honky tonk touristy town :-) Lots of history there! But, not sure if that is what you want. Go the web and check out the Fairbanks Visitors website. There may be things that you do want to see. My guests in my B&B in southcentral Alaska have driven up the Richardson Highway and thoroughly enjoyed the trips.

Do a search on Fairbanks. It has been discussed under some other headings lately. Most of it was negative.
