I've only tasted the Cabernet, and I personally was unimpressed.

But I know other people who think it's just fine.

So live and let live!

I agree that the Chard is the only "drinkable" one. The Cab tastes like really bad grape juice...it is really sweet (I think)!

I also agree that TJ and many other places have much better wine for just a little more. Try buying a few to taste before your trip.

Or if you only care about getting loaded, then drink up my friend. Why not take some Grape Mad Dog while you are at it!

$2 chuck is terrific wine for making sangria, mulled cider, spritzers, and other wine-cocktail type drinks. (A few years ago there was a season of drinkable merlot [is that an oxymoron?].)

2BC is $3.29 a bottle in SE Virginia. I think the Chard is drinkable, not at all earthmoving, but ok. We serve it at parties and keep it as a back up for when the better stuff runs out.

That said, I'd take a nicer wine to drink on vacation.

So, what is the corkage fee if you want to bring this stuff to a nice place?

LOL at Grape Mad Dog. It reminds me of high school and Boone Farm's Strawberry Hill. Ugh.

Two Buck Chuck is great for hot-spiced wine.

IMO, I think that the Chard is drinkable but the reds are not..it is still $1.99 a bottle here in San Diego..I wonder why it is higher in other parts of the country?
I would buy better bottles of wine to take on your trip..BevMo has a nickel sale of buy one bottle get the same bottle for a nickel...What a deal!
Wally, if you do get all trashed and start licking the bubble wrap..
Please post the photo on Fodor's..

Yes, state taxes, plus liquor regulations are very different in California (where they are civilized and you can buy hard liquor in the grocery store) and Washington (where you cannot).

We can buy hard liqour in the grocery store here in Illinois too. But, as I said earlier, TBC is $2.99. Am I right in guessing that, because CA produces so much wine, their taxes on it are lower? Or maybe we just have higher "sin" taxes in general!

kureiff ~ just in case you check back here, I have to tell you that we had a little mini-reunion with some friends five years ago. I brought Boonesfarm and some Miller shorties as a joke and they were a big hit. One of my girlfriends always drank that awful $1.99 Boonesfarm. I had to go to three liquor stores in a snow storm before I found it. The manager loved my story so much he wrapped it up all special like it was a bottle of Dom. It was hilarious.
