DH and I went to Vegas just last week...Mandalay suite on the cheap(Sun-Thurs), without points or perks **ask for room AWAY from Ice machine, they use metal buckets!!{NOISE- CLANG}
...mucho sun, and crowds...economy problems in Vegas??...NOT so much.
Reasonable eats (except for bucket o'beers...$32.00 for Five);was disappointed to see places closed -'because of the economy' ...
BURGER BAR was a good meal
DH gambles, but I spent $3.00, and that cup o' nickels lasted awhile!
There was a line for tickets to see Lion King.

PS - Vegas is like the Grand Canyon or Paris...everyone should see it once!
I see you have chosen the Bellagio...the lunch buffet was a treat! $40.00 gave us flank steak with chimichura sauce..ummhh;
tuna/shrimp rolls with wasabi, a cheese plate, olives, prosuitto, pesto shrimp and the desserts were soooo good!

I think you chose the best casino/hotel in Vegas. That is high-end, not sleazy.
I suppose it is fake, like a Disneyland for adults. But a better word is the one ncounty used: ostentatious (marked by outward, often extravagant display: flamboyant, pretentious, showy, splashy, splurgy).
The shows are first rate and not scaled down (maybe up). The only thing scaled down (in size) are the pyramid, NY skyline, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe.

I travelled to Vegas (& the Grand Canyon) from Australia. I was disappointed that gamblers and visitors to the casino were very casually dressed. To me, everything was similar... go to one casino, and many of them are the same. We went in April and everwhere was always so crowded. We just ate at restaurants that didn't involve a big line up. There was no way we could of gotten a buffet meal without a 30 minute wait. I wish I had seen the Liberace Museum.

I guess I'm one of the few who does like Vegas, but I will qualify that statement by saying that I usually only go for long weekends. The only times I've stayed for longer have been when my son has been in basketball tournaments, which he was from about 4th grade through high school. Those trips were completely non-"Vegasy" types of trips. No gambling, no drinking, etc.
The first time I went to Vegas was back in the 70s. I'd say that the city has gone through many changes in the past 30+ years and you can find different "faces" of the city in different areas. The strip is different from downtown which is different from the suburbs, like Summerlin where I have friends.
Come to think of it, I tend to stay away from the strip unless I'm going with someone who's never been before. I think the strip is the "you have to see it once" part of Vegas, but I don't think the other areas are worth a vacation in and of themselves unless you live near enough to just make it a quick weekend trip.
I hope I have been a little helpful and I apologize for my rambling. I'm recovering from H1N1/bronchitis and, apparently, not thinking clearly even though I have thoughts. lol

We went twice in two years, once with a bunch of friends for DH's birthday, then the following year with DH's family for his mom's birthday. I agree with the others - it's just something you've got to experience.
Both times, we saw Cirque du Soleil's LOVE and I highly recommend it - in fact, one of the reasons we agreed to go back to vegas a second time was to be able to see it a second time.
Have a great trip!

Vegas is what you think it is, tacky, an eye sore, over the top, etc etc, but I really enjoy it. Top notch pools to sit by, world class people watching both on the eye candy area and the WTF, good restaurants, and actually its like europe you can stroll on the sidewalk and have a beer or drink in your hand- only in vegas. I'm good for a few days every 2-3 years.

Wife and I love Vegas but we do it high end..which can be done on the cheap for true 5* hotels, restaurants..only place you can really do this.imo..we love the deal.
sign up for the e-mail and get rooms/suites for $109 midweek!
Wynn for the room upgrades to the suites and perks are a nice thing.we enjoy playing golf and hanging at the pool.
Fab restaurants with wine lists that are the real treat.
Guy Savoy with the Krug menu is to die for..rivals Paris location..something about downtown LV that is sublime in a trailer park way.
Enjoy the gambling but after 3 days, I'm done.
