By far, I most look forward to getting away from stress filled people and places. This is becoming harder to do without leaving the U.S. entirely (e.g. Hawaii is not the refuge it once was). On a recent trip in the backwoods of Maui we got ticketed for not wearing seat belts (we were 10 miles from anything!), and on our last trip to the Big Island there was a near riot in Kona when the new non-smoking decree took effect. Pitiful watching paradise being slowly converted into the same stress filled, tightass "I'm ok and you're not" environment as the mainland.

Thats easy. Having my family all to myself to enjoy, regardless where we are, what we're doing, where we stay or what we eat. Its just sweeeeet. Simply being together away from work, school, homework, housework etc etc ad nauseum.....!!!

Getting some time to reconnect with my husband. Even though we are newly married, it is still so great to get away from all the stress of daily life. We always come back from travelling so refreshed and happy together.

Oh, all of the above hit the nail right on the head! With three teens still at home, and our house a MAJOR hangout for all their friends, I just enjoy the quietness and schedule-free days of vacation. Even the 14 hr. car rides are relaxing to me.
I love staying at luxury hotels and being SERVED!! Oh, it's just so nice to have someone picking up after ME for a change, LOL!!
I love the "James, put my bags over there and get me a cold drink please" stuff. It's just SOOOOOOOOOOO fun to travel!!! And having other people cook and do the dishes is just an added bonus!! ***kim***

Not having to spend every minute connected to cell phone, laptop and blackberry. I know the mantra is multi-tasking but I truly enjoy the luxury of doing only one thing at a time - and that something being exactly what I choose to do.

Since I am not good at following directions, I will pick more than one.
#1 - concentrated time with husband and 2 teenagers - without video games, computers. It is even great if we are on a boring ride, since then we are forced to speak with each other.
#2 - clean rooms that I do not clean, good meals that I do not cook

I'm the opposite of nytraveler; multi-tasking is my favorite thing about vacations. Let's see...drink in one hand, book in other, headphones playing mood-enhancing south pacific tunes, feet splashing in lagoon... I'm sure there's a few more.

For me the obvious first is not working or doing anything we do at home. My reason for traveling though would definitly have to be seeing things that I will never see anywhere else (Mayan ruins, etc...). I drag my husband all over the place. We relax a little but I'm not the kind to spend a whole vacation in the pool or on the beach all day/everyday.

The most important thing is quality time with my family. This is a chance for all of us to get away, be care free and just have fun together. Sitting in a nice, tropical area restaurant feeling the breeze helps too!
