What do you do on a rainy day?
 

We'll be on Cape Cod for the Memorial Day weekend and the weather forecast doesn't look good. Any suggestions for rainy day activities? There are four of us - 2 21yr olds and parents. We're staying in N.Truro.

Scrabble, popcorn and M&M's

Movie, shopping, card games (Phase 10 is a lot of fun).

Sounds perfect to me. A rainy weekend at the beach, sitting around with family or friends playing board games. Then taking an afternoon walk on the beach in the rain and coming home to a blanket and a movie or more games. I fondly remember many summer rainy days spent this way at the beach.

Hot chocolate and somores by the fire. I'v grown up camping and stll enjyoy this even though I 25. The cocoa is better if you slip a little Absolute or Kaluha in it.

Some fun games include Outburst, Scattergories, Balderdash, Catch Phrase and Pictionary. We take these camping with us and play them at night. We've had so much fun that the park rangers have had to come by and ask us to keep the noise down.

Every year I go to the Jersey Shore with my girlfriends, and every year it rains! We play chickenfoot (a domino game) - it's very addictive. And we eat. And we shop. Not all that exciting, but it's really relaxing.

Don't always believe the weather forecasts. In fact it has changed recently for Saturday. I would go to P-Town and shop or look through the art galleries have lunch maybe cocktails. See if there are any interesting shows in P-Town. Then I would hit the beach for a nice stroll.Bring rain gear.

Sit in a bar and try umbrella drinks.

Hey Suzanne, we love chickenfoot too! Learned it at my grandmother's as a kid. Don't know anyone else outside of family who knows about that game. Hmmm...

In answer to the question - board games, shopping, leisurely meals at nice places... At least you don't have small children along. That's when you really dread the rain!

Another chickenfoot player here! My grandfather taught us how to play when it rained on our yearly trip to the lake when we were kids! Funny.....

Thanks, everyone for the great suggestions and for bringing back lots of memories.... I got out a bunch of old board games that we haven't played in years. We'll definitely go to P-Town. Have to get some dominos, too. Now, how do you play chickenfoot??? Theladyjess, I have a small collection. My brother and sister couldn't pronounce my name - always called me Winnie. They'd chant Winnie the Pooh everytime I'd come home from school. That was 20+ years ago. Now the whole family calls me Winnie (the Pooh).

In P'Town you could climb to the top of the Monument in the center of town. Something you wouldn't necessarily want to do in good weather, but a definite possibility for a rainy day. The visitors center at Race Point also has interactive exhibits and often has lectures and/or movies.

Sitting around playing board games and drinking Mojitos is lots of fun, but you can do that at home! For heaven's sake, you're not a sugarplum! There's nothing you can do on a sunny day in May on the Cape that you can't also do on a rainy day in May if you have a raincoat or umbrella.

Walking around outside, whether you're shopping or walking on nature trails, can be even more enjoyable in the rain because the crowds are smaller (since so many people stay home playing board games).

Yeah, I agree. why go to the Cape to sit in your room. Take a ride and check out the area. Wellfleet Bay, the Wildlife sanctuary, Calhoon Hollow Rd.anywhere but your room.

If it's raining REAL hard, I'd go to a neighborhood pub and watch Annika after she makes the cut. Get to know the locals.
