What clothes should I bring for trip to Phoenix 12/25-1/04
 

Just wondering what kind of clothing I should be bringing for our 10 day bisit to Phoenix. Looks like it will be 18-20C. I am Canadian so am more familiar with C. temps. Will a light jacket be okay? How about shorts, capri's or will I just need a couple of pairs of jeans and pants. My husband says he's bringing shorts but wondering if it is too cold especially at night as it seems to really cool down then. We were there once the beginning of May and almost froze to death it was so cold. Hard to know when travelling at this time of year.

Well, our fancy-dancy thermometer says its 62F, which, to me is cold...but it is bright blue sky and sunny. Shorts?..I would say no, but bring them anyway, but not for night, will be too chilly. The sun is going down pretty well by 5:30p.m. and by then it starts getting cool, but nothing like you are used to...Jeans are perfect, day and night, and yes, a jacket, sweaters are in order, capris fine, long-sleeved anything will be perfect. Our cousin was just here for a month from Scotland and thought it was cold, the longer he was here, the colder he got, I thought he was ridiculous. You'll be fine with just about anything, scoop-neck, turleneck, etc, just as long as your arms are covered, especially at night.

Phoenix: about 60-65 during the day, about 30-35 at night. Farther north you go, subtract about 15 degrees at 4,500 ft. elevation. Flagstaff and Grand Canyon are at 7,000 ft., so deduct another 5-10 degrees. No rain here since mid-October and none in the forecast.

There's no way I personally would bring shorts. The only people I see wearing them in Phoenix during December are the occasional middle and high school student. But, they also wear a heavy sweatshirt on the top.

I suggest jeans, t-shirts to wear under a heavy sweatshirt plus a light to moderate jacket. Layers is the key. Bring close-toed shoes, no sandals.

If you don't pack the right clothing, there are plenty of outlet malls nearby.

I'm bringing an empty suitcase so that I will have lots of room to bring my shopping bargains home. Any special malls that are great for after Christmas bargains. Thanks for the ideas everyone.
