What cellphone service to get in New Mexico

I'm moving to Santa Fe New Mexico. What is the best cellphone service/carrier to subscribe to?

lucca,
I've seen your posts in the past exploring different cities to relocate to from san diego.

I myself just left sd and ended up in portland.

how did you decide on santa fe? i've been through and found it charming (btw, i believe my cingular phone worked just fine there).

Should we start up some sort of club? I just left SD for Tulsa, OK.

To keep on topic, Sprint PCS just boosted their service in (at least) the eastern part of the state, where signals are scarce. I think some companies may have coverage maps you can access on-line.

Just spent a week in Santa Fe. My Verizon worked better than my friend's Cingular. FWIW

My Alltell service was pretty good around Santa Fe and Albuquerque last weekend. There was no signal in the mountains near Chimayo, however, and I think I've lost service around Cuba in the past.

Hey Lizzard-
We decided on Santa Fe because of a job offer. I applied for a similar job in Portland...but it didn't happen (I'm a TV news cameraman.) Santa Fe did, however, and we are thrilled. We did visit BOTH cities, and either one would've been fine with us.

The movers are coming this Friday...

Back to my original post: Currently I have Cingular. I like it a lot...and I know my phone works in Santa Fe. But I'm going to have to switch to a local version of Cingular there--and they don't have it. Cingular only offers a "National" plan, which is $10 more than what I'm paying now for my "California" plan. I don't mind, but am just curious if there's a better deal out there.

We'll keep you posted about our move and our transition into Santa Fe (me, my wife, our 2-1/2 year old daughter Malia and dog Boomer.)

I should add...lots of Santa Fe locals are bemoaning the rise in housing costs there. But coming from California, the prices are still a bargain! One can actually buy a brand-new 3BR/2BA in a new subdivision for $180K! Of course, the homes nearer the Plaza or in the Northern Part are significally more expensive (upwards of $600K).

THIS is why we're excited about moving to Santa Fe.

hi LuccaBrazzi,

I just returned from a wonderful visit to Santa Fe. I have AT&T cell coverage and it didn't work anywhere. Not even in Albuquerque :-(

Like you, I am considering a move (or second home ???) there from San Francisco. I am anxious to hear how you like living in Santa Fe (pros & cons). Good luck in your new adventure!!!
