What can you tell me about Waikiki Beach Walk?

Can anyone enlighten me regarding the new Waikiki Beach Walk? I am wondering as to what is there and is it great, or just so-so. We are thinking we may go to Waikiki late April in conjunction with Kauai but still are not sure. For the last few trips to Hawaii we have by- passed Oahu but an curious about anything new, good or bad comments please. Thanks in advance...

If you are in the area, Waikiki beach Walk is nice. Lots of good new restaurants & shops & entertainment.

But, it isn't worth walking to from the other end of Waikiki as there are shops, restaurants, entertainment throughout Waikiki.

It certainly isn't worth stopping on Oahu just for Waikiki Beach Walk.

Lots of Oahu info:

It's just a street. Granted, a nice one that is all remodeled and slicked up. Two of my favorite hotels are there (Breakers & Hawaiiana) but they've been there all along.

Agreeing with Dusty above, you definitely would not go to Oahu just to see what BeachWalk looks like these days!

Dusty and Suze have put it well.

If it's been a while since you've been to Waikiki, the refurbishment of Kuhio Beach Park might be of more interest; I think that has made the area very attractive. It is a lot more landscaped, with little waterfalls and pools, a hula mound.

Depends on your reasons to bypass Oahu.....if you think it's full of development and nothing more, staying in Waikiki and coming just to see the Beachwalk will only cement that perception. If you are looking to see the rest of Oahu as well--North Shore, Pearl Harbor, Waimea, etc.--that would be better.
