What can we do with 7 hours in Boston?
 

Hi we have a 7 hour stop in Boston on the way to our honeymoon destination. I've been to Boston a few times when I was younger and adored it but my fiance has never been so I'd really like to give him an overview of the city. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we could do in about 5 hours that would give him a feel of the city and get us back to the airport in time for our flight. We arrive around 7:00 so will likely be able to be in the city until very early afternoon unfortunatly on a SUNDAY. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

I wouldn't go further than the NorthEnd (Italian) or Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall. Just walk through the shops of FH, and then go over to the Hanover St. area for a bite to eat.

If you had a little more time, I'd recommend the Duck Tour for an overview of the city. But I'd be nervous about missing my flight. Are you talking about a 7 hour layover... Or truly seven hours to play?

if you go into downtown, you can sign up for pretty inexpensive trolley tours. i know for sure you can get tickets in the area across from the Red/Green Park st. T-stop. when my parents visited, we did this, and it worked out really well. it's a hop-on, hop-off, all-around tour of the city. you'll see all of the sites, hopefully get some fun guides, and be able to spend time at the places that interest you before jumping on again. if you google for boston trolley tour, you should find it easily. i personally wouldn't recommend the duck tours. i think you have to stay on the entire time, and if you want to see the city, being able to walk around a little is nice. hope that helps! happy honeymooning.

I would walk the Freedom Trail ( you can take a Trolley also but I walked it)
You just follow a red line painted on the sidewalk and it takes you to all the historic sites in town -
many places to stop and have a bite to eat along the way - very fun I thought

Take the Blue Line form the airport to State St stop. When you come out on the street the building that you emerge from is the Old State House, where the Declaration of Independence was first read to Bostonians and is also the site of the Boston Massacre.

From there you can walk to Quincy Market, Faniuel Hall, the waterfront and the North End.

Or from there you can walk the other way toward Boston Common. Once at the common you can walk up Beacon Hill toward the State House to see that neighborhood or toward the Public Gardens and the Back Bay.

I would definately not take the subway on a Sunday schedule. There should be no traffic going through either tunnel, so hop in a taxi and it should be 15 minutes into Quincy Market area.

Above posters may have missed what I did until I read OP a second time - they are arriving at 7 AM on a Sunday and need to leave city about 1 PM.

While you could stroll and see the outside of things - not much open at that hour on a Sunday in Boston. I might report with question about where to get something to eat on a Sunday at that hour and then after breakfast, take a stroll thru Quincy Market area.

Boston Duck Tours starts their tours at 9 AM on Sundays. Take an early tour out of their Back Bay (Prudential) base, have brunch and head to the airport. Since the OP is arriving at 7 AM, they'll probably be tired and not up to hiking along the Freedom Traill, though of course that's also a possibility at any hour.
