What can I expect at a Luau?

My family and I are planning a trip to Ohau (Waikiki) next year and want to experience a luau. What kind of food can we expect? What does the luau entail? Any recommendations for a good luau to attend near Waikiki. I don't plan on driving ANYWHERE!! Thanks

As for food, they always have the roasted pig that they bury and cook in the ground, then parade it around the place before cutting it up and putting it out to eat. They also generally have grilled meat (steak and chicken), lomi lomi salmon (a Hawaiian specialty), and an assortment of other salads and dishes. See the following link for a typical menu:

As for entertainment, there is a Polynesian style show, with hula dancers, fire dancers, etc.

The only regularly-scheduled luau for tourists that I could find on Oahu is at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It's in Waikiki, but is not available every day--only Mondays. http://royal-hawaiian.com/de_luau.htm
There could be other luaus around town, I'm just not aware of them....your concierge may know more!

All the others (Paradise Cove, Germaine's, Polynesian Cultural Center) are well outside of Waikiki, and if you don't want to drive I believe they have tour buses that can pick you up at certain points.
