What Broadway shows would you see? I have already seen Wicked, Phantom, Hairspray, Mama Mia in SF and LA...but are any of those worth seeing again in NY?

My husband and I are 30+ and are not "Avenue Q" kinda of people ;)

Billy Elliot should be a must.

South Pacific and Gypsy, are TOP Quality revivals.

In the Heights is a high energy show with a lot of dance.

I'm guessing from your list, you're only interested in musicals?

I would add Jersey Boys to the list.

Hi travelmom. My musical list would also include South Pacific, Gypsy and Billy Elliot. The revival of Pal Joey opens Dec 18th. If you're up for a great drama, I would highly recommend Equus and A Man for All Seasons with Equus as first choice - very creative, dramatic and wonderful cast.

I don't understand what being over 30 would make you not want to see the show. However, if you are making a political statement, then it makes sense since the show does have a liberal bent.

HowardR - I am just guessing that the poster's remark was based on a perception of what Ave Q is like. I never really understand those kind of comments because we may enjoy something if we only gave it a try.

As an aside, one of the writers of Ave Q was the keynote speaker at ds' HS graduation (he's an alum). It was quite interesting. Actually, his message was that you can't grow if you don't try new things.

Definitely HR. Despite the puppets, it's not a show for young kids.

Boy I'm so glad you guys asked that, because I thought EXACTLY the same thing - how do you know if you haven't tried it, and what do you think it is and what does being over 30 have to do with it?

As for the "30+ and not Avenue Q"...I guess I should have separated those two things. I was giving our age range so you know more info to make a suggestion.
As for the Avenue Q...I saw a preview showing for this and wasn't so much into the puppet nudity etc.:) So I guess I was trying to give out an idea of something I am not into... :)

Avenue Q does not appeal to be either, and I hope nobody will put me on the spot and ask me to defend why I don't want to spend my time and money on it.

I don't think anyone wants to argue that point. I agree that the OP somehow made it seem that the reason they wouldn't want to see Avenue Q was because they are 30. That just didn't seem to make a lot of sense, like it suggested it's a kid's show, or something, so of course some posters were curious what that meant. Travelmom's explanation makes more sense now. We sure can't all like the same shows.

happy trails, you miss the point. We're not criticizing the OP because she didn't want to see Avenue Q. We were questioning her reasoning based on the comment she made about their age that seemed to be the reason they didn't want to see the show.
Hey, considering the fact that I'm in that minority who didn't like Wicked, I am hardly one to know for sure what people will or will not like...and I have never claimed to be the "all-knowing theater expert"!

If you haven't seen "Spring Awakening" you should try that. It closes in January.

If the OP isn't interested in Avenue Q (for the reasons stated), they may also not be interested in Spring Awakening (unless it was the puppets).
