What area to stay in Minneapolis?
 

What is a convenient and nice area to stay in Minneapolis? I have booked the Hyatt in Nicolett Mall. What is in this area? We will be going to a Twins game and the Mall of America. What other must-sees are there? We will only have 2 days.

Along the Mississippi you can stroll or rent a segue on the pedestrian "stone arch bridge" where you can see historic old flour mills, tour the Mill City Museum, see the exterior of the new Guthrie Theater set to open later this summer and see a lock & dam at St. Anthony Falls. (all of this in same 2 block area)
You can go to the Walker Art Museum and also do the outdoor sculpture garden and try the Wolfgang Puck 20,21 restaurant. (all at the Walker) You can bike, canoe, sail, walk or roller blade around Lake Calhoun or Lake of the Isles or Lake Harriet and get an ice cream at Sebastian Joe's. (near Lake of the Isles) My fav museum is the Mpls. Institute of Arts in south Mpls. You can take a trolley tour of the city starting at the convention center. Nicollet MAll is a pedestrian & bus only street so it is fun to pub crawl to outdoor cafes...Brit's Pub and the Zinc Bar are 2 I know of with outdoor seating. Enjoy our great city!!

I think you'll do well staying on Nicollet Mall. It's good for shopping, and strolling. Also you should be close to the light rail which will take you to the game (if you don't want to walk), it'll also take you right to the MegaMall, if that's your choice. Walks along the river are nice and relaxing. The sculpture garden at the Walker is nice, and you'll be right by Loring Park, which is another great place to stroll around. Around 14th St Nicollet Mall goes back to having regular auto traffic, but it's also the beginning of Eat Street, where you'll find lots of good restaurants. Many of them have patios. I'm fond of the New Dheli, for indian (14th and Nicollet).

I live a few blocks from here, trust me, there's lots to see.

Also the MPLS institute of Arts is nearby.

I have stayed at the Hyatt on the Nicolett Mall. And had a part in the revamping of the Mall.

I believe that the light rail transit goes all the way to the MOA now from the Nicolett Mall. The Hyatt is on top of a shopping mall but the Nicolett Mall is a beautiful pedestrian street. If its a rainy day you can walk from your hotel in skyways which connect over seventy square blocks of downtown shopping.
