what area of st. louis
 

My husband and I will be in st. louis in early June for a few nights and are trying to decide on what area to stay in. We will probably do some things in Forest Park so it might be good to stay there but also like when we can wander through pretty/historic neighborhoods in the morning or for dinner. appreciate your suggestions.

The Cheshire Inn has recently been refurbished. It's a St Louis tradition. Within three blocks is a great neighborhood coffee shop and a good bar/restaurant (called Jimmy's-- if it is still there). It is very close to Wash U, which has a beautiful campus with attractive architecture. Close to Forest Park and Clayton.

I agree with PeaceOut - the Cheshire is centrally located (walking distance of Forest Park) and the entire hotle has been renovated - we actually stayed there and loved it.

They have added two new restaurants there - one is a Tapas Bar - it is great fun and the other is more upscale and has wonderful food. There really is nowhere to wander around neighborhoods though.

There is Boutique Hotel in Clayton - Seven Gables - It is really cute - see link - it is in walking distance of old beautiful neighborhoods as well as many great restaurants for dinner and breakfast. My favorite breakfast place near there is City Coffee - authentic crepes and wonderful coffee! There is an outdoor cafe to people watch. The other fun breakfast place is called Half and Half also in walking distance of this hotel.

Another option would be the Chase Park Plaza, which is just across the street from Forest Park. It's been several years since we stayed there but it was wonderful when we did.

The Chase has more restaurants nearby, is still lovely.

Cheshire Inn would be another great choice on the other edge of the park. The DeMun area, a few blocks away, has more night life on warm summer evenings than in the past, with Sasha's wine bar and DeMun Oyster providing sidewalk views of a parklike seminary across the street.

SusanCS, Last spring we also stayed in the Chase Park Plaza and really enjoyed it - particularly for the location.
