What area is best to stay on Kauai?

My husband and I are planning a 10 day vacation for R&R to Kauai in late Feb/early March. What part of the island is best for this?

You will get various opinions on this, but generally speaking, North shore is quieter and more lush and beautiful, however more of a chance of rainy weather that time of year. South shore is a better bet for sunny weather.

As above response states, South Shore is predictably sunnier. Depends if R&R for you means lots of time relaxing on a sunny beach. If so, for a winter trip, probably South shore/Poipu area is better. The drive from there to North Shore is not long--maybe 1--1.5 hours or less, so staying on South certainly doesn't preclude day trips to other areas.

The surf on the north shore is generally much rougher at that time of year, plus you are more likely to get rain. Go for a stay on the south shore. You can easily tour the north if the weather is nice there.

I had a nine day stay last June and split the time between the South Shore (6 days) and the North Shore (3 days). You might want to think about it as it will take a couple of hours to get from north to south or vice versa if you plan to stay at one but see the other for more than one day.

Then there's always the Kapaa area, which is central to both. I like it, as it's where a lot of locals live and some of the best restaurants are in that area, and because I don't like resorts, but some people find it too congested and prefer the resort atmosphere.

At that time of year, Paradise tends to be better in the southern part. Your chance of rain is greater in the north.
