Washington Jeffersons special is $126 or so without taxes without breakfast for a night. They charde an extra $12 per person for breakfast, but saw I can get breakfast much cheaper. Do you guys agree?

The Holiday Express just because you don't have to share a bathroom.
Don't count breakfast because you can get an excellent HUGE bagel with cream cheese and coffee for a couple of bucks.
Did you check The Jane Hotel? I really like the location.

My husband and I are travelling together, the jane only have single rooms. Why not the Washington Jefferson, if I skip the breakfast that is the cheapest and looks nice on the website???

On what website? You need to look on tripadvisor.com and check the "travelers photos" on the review pages.
On quikbook.com
The Hampton Inn Soho for $117/night plus tax
This is a new hotel in trendy Soho. Rooms are small but nice.
On the Avenue $123/night plus tax
This is on the upper west side, same area as the Belleclaire. Again, rooms are small but modern and comfortable. Great area near Central Park and lots of nice restaurants.
If you want to be in midtown, the Hudson is on quikbook in your budget but rooms there are REALLY small. I also think you could easily bid on Priceline for a 4* room and get something for those 3 nights at ~ $120/night plus tax.

If it's only you and your husband, I have had phenomenal luck with Priceline. I live in NY and use Priceline for week end getaways. Go for a four star in an area you like and bid every 24 hours. Check out biddingfortravel.com which lists the hotels Priceline has used. Good luck...

So, I cannot bid on priceline as I am not from the us or canada.
My options are as follows:
Washington Jefferson
318W 51St
$432.94
Taxes included
Holiday Inn Express Madison square garden
$486.92
On the Ave
$436.58
Taxes included
Hampton Inn - Soho
$411.52
Breakfast and taxes included included
I need a place that will allow us easy way of transportation, close to good priced places to eat etc, etc.

You absolutely CAN bid on Priceline. All you have to do is put in any 5 digit number for a zip code (postal code) like 99999, 00000, 90210 etc. Obviously I would choose either of the 2 I gave you. I think the MSG area is convenient but dreary and the Washington Jefferson is really not nice.

On the AVe is by far the class of that group of hotels. It is in a mid/upscale residential area, right near Central Park and several major museums and there are 2 subway lines within a couple of blocks for easy access to the rest of the city.
Best of all there are a ton of good, inexpensive restaurants of almost any ethnicity you can think of - as well as Zabar's which has great take out food - salads, sandwiches, premade meals for heating in a microwave, whole chickens and an incredible selection of cheeses, meats, bakery and quality groceries.

There is a recent trip report from someone who has just stayed at the same hotel. She thought it was fine, here is the link.
