What are your 3 favorite things you and your mate did in and around Las Vegas?

My honey and I are visiting in late-August (being from south Louisiana, we are hoping that the 'dry' heat will be a 'relief' or at least tolerable) and we are still putting together the rest of our plans.

We are doing Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam and 'O' (as I indicated in another recent email), but are really looking to maximize our three nites and almost four days in the area. We have a bunch of other places to travel next, so we may not be back for a few years, so we want to take our best shot on seeing incredible things in a relatively compressed time.

SO...we would appreciate your contributions and your short list of 'must do' or your favorite things to do in Las Vegas!

Thanks a ton!

I would love to answer, but it is forbidden to do so. Don't you know "what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas?

By the way, I'm from Florida so I know what you're saying but I've been there a couple times in August and if one more person looked at me in the 114 degrees and said, "oh but this is DRY heat" I thought I'd deck him. Trust me -- over 100 is HOT, anyway you look at it.

Are you doing any shows? That to me is the most important must do -- particularly the Cirque shows. The Liberace museum is a hoot if you are of an age to remember. You will be amazed how much time you use up (and enjoy) by simply strolling from hotel to hotel and through them. Having a drink at night on top the Rio at the Voodoo is great. You can step outside on the open roof decks and the views are amazing.

Yep...we're doing 'O' and will probably do 'Love" on Sat or Sun. Also planning on strolling from hotel to hotel.

What my husband and I really enjoyed was renting a convertile for a day and driving to Valley of Fire State Park. It's beautiful, but be sure to take lots of water! Also, you might not want a convertible in August.

1. Go see a show together.
2. Gamble together. We often play craps or blackjack together.
3. Eat a romantic dinner together at one of the many restaurants.

We've also wanted to get a "couple's massage" at one of the spas, but it's too difficult to drag my husband away from the craps table!

This was our favorite. Rafting down the Colorado river. It was scenic awesome, and the guides were fun. It begins at Hoover Dam, very safe.

Second was seeing "LOVE." (that might be first.) Awsome show. Also we liked going to the top of the Stratohphere at night. The view was great. Have fun whatever you do.

Love is the show that is at the Mirage. it is a cirque show. Not sure of the details of "O" but it is another show which plays in LV. I am not sure where but others will chime in I am sure for more info.

"O" is also a cirque-du-soleil show.

A second for the Liberace museum - it was really fun! And the shark tank at Mandalay Bay.

I almost forgot---have dinner at either the Wynn Buffet or Bellagio on Sat. night. It was there "gourmet buffet" night and both were awesome. If you like crab legs all ready peeled for you it is the place to go.

Red Rock Canyon (go very early in the morning in summer), walking around the Wynn and watching the fountains go off from the viewing deck at the Bellagio. One thing I want to do and haven't yet, is to go see Spamalot at the Wynn.

We love riding the loop at Red Rock Canyon. I've seen O twice and was amazed each time. (for geo--it's a Cirque du Soleil show done on/in/over a huge pool with incredible moving platforms and special effects--my husband [the engineer} loved it--he was especially intrigued by the way the platforms came and went--and he generally hates this type of show). For a special dinner we ate at the Eiffel Tower at the Paris- if you request (and you're lucky) you can overlook the fountains at the Bellagio (can't hear the music, but if you're there at sunset you can see the lights come up as it gets dark. great view of the strip! good food too!). Also at the Paris, there's a bakery/coffee shop with the most beautiful pastries!

My husband and I visit Vegas 3 or 4 times a year. We always stay at the Venetian. My 3 suggestions would be:
1. Visit the Octogon bar, in the Ventian, during the day and have Jackson the bartendar make you his famous Lemon Drop martini. Yum! If you put $10 in the video poker machine and play Max. credits your drinks are complimentary.
2. Have lunch about 1pm upstairs by the Gondolas, there is a nice restaurant set in the pretend outdoors of Venice. Just about that time everyday they put on a very entertaining "Opera" and you have ring side seats! Order the Pear and Walnut ravioli. Mmmmm!
3.Eat dinner at Emeril's Delmonicos restaurant (again in the Venetian) this is $$$, but we always share everything. We share an appetizer, salad and a filet mignon. Double yum.
Enjoy your trip! While wandering throught the Venetian, be sure and look up, the ceilings in the main Lobby are spectacular. Ciao!

Hi tampatiger......my husband and I "did Vegas" last August in the "dry" (teehee) heat. We went mainly for R&R....loved walking the strip, watched the fountains @ the Bellagio, ate at the many restaurants, dinner at Olives (Bellagio)was yummy, had a drink downstairs from the lobby at the new Wynn hotel (kinda cool little bar looking out at the water and funky water art) sorry, can't remember the name of the bar, but it's downstairs. We're not big gamblers, but we enjoy eating, drinking, and seeing the sights. And due to the "dry" heat, we spent a lot of time at our pool....the pool cabanas are pricey, but worth it. And if you can, call the hotel and reserve it BEFORE you get to Vegas. The cabana usually has misters, a frig full of cool drinks and snacks, very nice. By the way, we're not so weird that we didn't drop ANY cash @ the casinos........enjoy!!

O is a cirque de soleil show that involves water. I have not seen it, but I believe there is a large tank in the middle of the theater and much of the show is in the tank.

O is a play on words since l'eau means water in French and that is how it is pronounced.

One of a favorite things to do is just to stroll down the strip and go in and out of all of the casinos. Some of them are very interesting. We always spend at least one day doing that.

Don't miss the fountain show in front of the Bellagio.
