What are the waves like in Duck/Corolla area

We are thinking of renting in Duck area this summer. Big waves are important. We have stayed in both Top Sail and Oak Island, but thinking of OBX as an option this year if the waves are at least similar to Top Sail.

We don't have to stay in Duck, but it seems to be the favorite of alot of folks here. What are the beach areas for waves? Thanks

I don't think of there ever being 'big waves' on the East Coast unless there is a storm brewing. May I inquire as to what you are seeking ? Surfing, or what ?

I was thinking more along the lines of good waves for skim board/boogie board and some surfing. At Top Sail, the family was very excited about the height of the waves there. (We're used to Boston area/Cape Cod beaches which compared to Top Sail are nonexistant).

Am sure someone will comment but unless there is a storm, as was mentioned, there isn't a lot of surf..maybe a couple feet...the action may be better a little further south

For surfing & waves on the East Coast (storms aside) Rincon, PR, is the place to go. www.rinconpr.com, rincon-pr.com, http://eastcoastsurfing.com/

Just returned from OBX so thought I'd report back on my own question. We ended up staying in Nags Head, but went up to Corolla to see the wild ponies and got to drive several miles along the sandy beach. Waves were smaller than in Top Sail, but big enough to body surf and use skim and boogie boards. We all preferred Top Sail Beach.
