We'll be travelling to Maui, Big Island, Oahu, and Kauai. We want to bring back gifts for our 22 year daughter

Ooooohhhhh. A local boy who surfs and dances hula! Cocoa brown skin, big brown eyes and a body that looks like he ordered it out of "Muscle & Fitness Magazine". Where can you buy them????? Uuuuhhhh, try Sunset, Pipe, Sandy, Makapuu, Alii, even Waikiki! Sometimes there's even a 2 for 1 sale! <VBG>

Shame on Pumpy for blatantly telling you he will sell you lava rocks. It is considered bad luck by the Hawaiians to disturb any lava rock in the Islands in any way. We should respect the culture and customs of the indigenous people of the land we visit. Please. everyone, do not try to take lava home with you.

Doesn't everyone know it's bad luck to leave Hawaii with native rocks???LOL. Haven't you all seen the reports that Hawaii literally gets back like a ton of rocks returned by mail each year (for real)? Each one of those rocks have a story I'll bet! Even if you don't believe in bad luck, best to respect the culture.

I don't know how difficult this would be to bring back, but some friends brought home some pineapple wine from Hawaii that was absolutely fantastic.

My 21 year old daughter really fell for earrings in the shape of a flip flop in silver. I think they were about £20. they also had necklaces. We only saw them in Lahaina.
I really loved the little dresses for babies in Hawaiin fabric but couldn't think of a little girl of the right age.
I bought a car ornament in Hilo Hattie's which a Hawaiian dancing girl. I thought it was incredibly bad taste but having got it home I have grown to like it!

We brought back (our had them shipped) Pinapples from the Dole plantation. Everyone went crazy for them. Many want to know how to order more.
I know this is chessy but my daughters college friends loved the tiki's she brought back for them from Walmart. She picked ones that fit there personality. Ex: money or love or happiness. They got a kick out of them.
I brought calendars to a few friends (last time we went) and they really used them, got lots of good responses. Good luck!

When my husband and I went to Maui we stopped at Sams and bought Kona Coffee and then stopped at the Post Office and mailed it to ourselves so we didn't have to drag it through the airport - we had made our one week trip with only two carry-ons. That's what's great about Hawaii. Plan to do the same on the Big Island on our next trip, only this time it will be a stop at Costcos.

How about a Don Ho action doll for the daughter and a Best of Don Ho cassette tape for grandma? Forget that fakey hula girl stuff!

Don't bring rocks back!! My sister went to Maui in July and brought home a rock she found on the beach near Black Rock. Ever since then, she has had horrible things happen to her. I am leaving Friday for my first visit there and I am returning the rock she took. I plan to put it where she found it since we are staying nearby.

Pineapples and macadamian nuts. But ship the pineapples. Pain in the neck carrying those things back on the plane.

My family and friends have especially enjoyed the soaps and lotions made there, and the specialty mac nuts like the onion-garlic, etc. Also the cookies from a couple of the local companies.... They weren't quite so enamored of the coffee or the pineapples that are never the same as in Hawaii (picked too green for shipping, probably.)

For a great day and a nice way to meet locals, go to the Aloha Stadium Flea Market on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. You can take a shuttle from Waikiki Hotels or take 'THE BUS.' There is plenty to choose from there!

Did anyone mention it yet? Hawaiin seasoning salts are divine, especially at bbq time on chicken, fish, pork ... The bottles are plastic, about $5 each, different flavors, we got ours at Safeway.

Didn't read all the posts, so don't know if anyone else suggested these: small gifts to take home and easy to pack are photo calendars of Hawaii for 88? apiece with envelopes at Longs Drugs. There is a store at Ala Moana Center on Oahu and most of the neighbor islands as well.

Stop into an arts and crafts gallery. I found beautiful carved wood pieces (bowls, nightlights) and hand printed fabrics.

For cheaper and typical 'souveniers' the ABC stores and Longs Drug both have a huge selection.
