What are some really good vacation spots?

I'm particularly looking for a mountain region that's not TOO far out west. I'm also looking for any unique fun cities that you could reccommend. Again, any mountains or big cities, THANKS!

A little more information, please. What do you consider "fun"? What are some places you've been to that you've liked/disliked? For example, I think Chicago's a great town to visit. Do you like true Urban Centers with nightlife/shopping/art/commerce/lots of people? Do you consider Colorado too far out west? Are the Poconos more your speed, or are they a bit too "old school"?

If you want moutains then you will have to at least come as far as Colorado, Wyoming or Montana.

Rocky Mountain National Park, Pikes Peak, Independence Pass, Million Dollar Highway in Colorado. Tetons in Wyoming. Beartooth Highway Wyoming - Montana Border. Glacier National Park in Montana.

My favorite mountain destination is Jasper and Banff National Park in Canada.

There are only two "mountain regions" in the US which are not all the way out on the west coast proper. The Appalachian to Adirondack range, and the Rockies.
Most people consider the Rockies to be in the "west".
If that's too far west for you, then your choice is limited to the Appalachians-Adirondacks.

" then your choice is limited to the Appalachians-Adirondacks."

Lol... That's not very limited at all! If you're looking for something in the eastern US, golfergurl5, you wouldn't believe some of the great attractions we've got in the mountains I call home (Southern Appalachians/Blue Ridge).

If you can be more specific, we can help you out on here, and if you'd be open to a vacation in the southern Appalachians, I know a wonderful place! What are you looking for, though?
