What are lanais???

I've seen this in hotel info but have no idea what it means!

It's a Hawaiian word for patio but has come to mean either a patio or balcony when used by hotels.

They're residents of an island in the Hawaiian chain.
It's also a Hawaiian patio or veranda or deck.
