whale watching spots in SD

Has anyone been able to spot whale migrations from the coast? What is the best points/spots to view them?

Also, are the whale-watching cruises worth it? If you've tried one, please let me know the company name and your experience.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Cabrillo National Monument near San Diego allows you to view far into the ocean and see whales as they pass by. Because the viewing is so good, the place is often crowded when whales are known to be close to the shore. Also be aware that it closes PROMPTLY at 5:00 in the afternoon.

Is the whale watching all year round or only certain months like in hawaii?

Barbara Jan 16th, 2003 10:10 AM

Only certain months - January and February are the best.

How about August???

My dear, there are no whales in South Dakota, unless you count the fatties at the malls.

I used to go to Jones Beach (L.I.) to watch submarine races.
