Whale watching in December

We will be in Maui and Kauai the December 20 - Jan 2. How is the whale watching during that timeframe? Any suggestions on which boats?

Aloha,

The official Whale Watch season runs from December 10th to April 15th, this is the time that the tour boats will
guarantee sightings. On Maui I suggest
you check out any of the Pacific Whale
Foundation trips or the trips on the
Lahaina Princess. The average price for a 2 hour trip is $22.00 per adult.
If you have never been out on a boat trip to see our famous guests it is something not to be missed.

JDP
To JDP, Aloha, Thanks so much for your info on the Hana Tour Companies. Also, the info you directed to Anita on whale watching. Can you elaborate on the boat trip itself? Is seasickness a factor on these trips? Also, how great are the chances of a sighting from shore, with or without binoculars? Mahalo

Late December, on Oahu you can easily spot humpback whales from the top of the Makapuu lighthouse trail. We have also spotted them off-shore near Mokuleia. Binoculars make it even better. I'm sure there's whale spotting near Lahaina, and in other coastal areas on Maui. Maybe someone else will write in. This is definitely the season. Have a great time!

Attn:Joy,

Aloha,

As for seasickness ? anytime you go on
a boat on the ocean you run the risk of
becoming seasick, of course if the ocean is a little rough on the day you choose to go out the risk is higher. So lets just hope the ocean is calm on the day you go out.
As for shore sightings on Maui, they happen all the time, the best places to
try from are Papawai Point (the scenic stop between Lahaina and Kahului)
or up in Napili or Kapalua. Just keep your eyes open they are out there.

JDP
