Whale watching in Cape Cod
Has anyone gone on the Whale Watching tours in the Cape Cod area? Planning on going in August. How long is the boat ride and because I have 2 kids (2 and 7) do I need to worry about sea sickness?

There are several places in Cape Cod to go out of. The trips are generally at least a couple hours. Frankly I would never take a 2 year old, they are just too young with a short attention span. No way out either if the kid starts being disruptive. AND yes, I've seen plenty of sick passengers, take precautions.

Thanks Budget Queen. I figured people got sick. Is there any certain time that is perhaps better to go? Im planning on August..but naturally the ocean can be choppy at any time. Is the ride worth it?

The trips are 2-3 hours, but the boats out of Provincetown (Dolphin Fleet, Portugese Princess etc.) spend the most time with the whales because Stellwagen Bank where the whales are is right off the tip of Provincetown.
Other boats from Hyannis and Barnstable Harbor have to travel back and forth to Stellwagen Bank. I think everyone brings motion-sickness pills with them. |
We did a whale watching tour out of Provincetown and it was great. There were several little ones (around 2-3) and there was seating inside the boat where the families mostly stayed. The excursion lasted about 90 mins to 2 hrs.

I've done the Dolphin Fleet ones out of Provincetown and they are great. We saw tons of whales. I don't remember it being so choppy that people were ill, but I do remember the boat listing somewhat when all of the passengers race from one side of the boat to the other to see whatever is off the side. There is seating in the middle where one parent could sit with the 2-yr-old. I'll bet your 7-yr-old will love it.
