Wethersfield Ct

Help needed please.
I have a son who is graduating from college in two weeks and has accepted an offer for a job in Hartford, Ct. He is looking for places to live and found a really neat apartment in Wethersfield. From the info we have gathered on the internet, the town looks charming. Anyone have any info on this location?
Many thanks in advance for your help!

Wethersfield is a suburb directly south of hartford. OLD Wethersfield is very charming and very cute. Other parts of wethersfield (around the wethersfield country club or closer to Rocky hill, for example) are very nice. Some parts of wethersfield are so-so. Route 99 (aka the silas deane highway) and the Berlin Tpke are major roads with lots of commercial shopping. Route 99 has marshalls, TJ maxx, bed, bath, etc etc... the berlin Tpke has alot of chain restaurants and bigger places like Loews. They run parallel to eachother at opposite ends of the town. Route 99 runs from hartford to rocky hill, the berlin tpke runs from hartford to newington.

Whether your son's apt option is in a charming area of town will depend on where it is. there are some not so fabulous areas and some quite charming. Wethersfield isn't West Hartford-- which has more charming areas but price tags to accompany them.

i think i made wethersfield sound more commercial than it is. Old wethersfield is amazingly cute-- there's a cove at one end and a big town green- great little area to walk around or rollerblade or just hang out and get great ice cream. Old wethersfield in the fall has a great scarecrow exhibit and it's very cool at halloween.

there are the commercial areas as mentioned, but i think of it as a very residential community- not alot of singles, but mostly families and older couples. some areas nicer than others, but overall just fine. If i were in my twenties and working in hartford i might choose to live there if i found a cute place, but if money was good, I'd live in West hartford- more to do and more singles.

emcash,
Thanks so much for a speedy and informative reply. The apartment is part of an historic home on Main Street, overlooking the cove. Would that area be okay? Thanks so very much for your help!

That area is really charming. That's old wethersfield- my favorite part of wethersfield. The cove is very pretty and it's very close to hartford.

Thanks emcash! He'll be a design engineer at Pratt & Whitney and he's also a student pilot and interested in Hartford Brainard airport close by. Doesn't care about the single scene, so this sounds like a good fit. Thank you so much for all of your help!!

He will have a nice quick commute into Pratt - varies based on construction on Routes 2 and 3. Its actually East Hartford that he will be working in. Old Wethersfield is really nice. Route 99 is the main commercial drag.

It's a good area. Maybe a little quite for someone who is young an d single, but within a 10 minute drive he will have access to plenty. I'm sure it is a good start for anyone moving to the area. Wish my parents had fodors folks to help out when I moved to the Hartford area!!!
