Wet & Dry Caves on Kauai?

I was trying to work on the details of our itinerary for our upcoming Kauai trip in June. We would like to include the "Wet" and "Dry" caves on Kauai's north shore, but from reading in books and postings here, I can't tell how much time to allocate for these sights. Is it something you just look at, or do they take time to explore? Do people swim in the "Wet" caves, or just look at them?

You can just drive up and look at 'em. I think there is a wet cave that you have to hike to; check Kauai Revealed.

We made quick stops on our drive up to the North Shore one day and didn't spend too long at either one. I didn't see anyone swimming at the wet cave.

Agree with <font color="blue">kimr</font>, we briefly explored the dry cave across from Haena State Park parking lot and further north towards Ke`e beach, we also briefly viewed the wet cave which is also on the left side of the road if headed north to Ke`e.

Suggest saving the dry cave exploration as a &quot;rainy((R))day&quot; back up activity. Recall seeing people in the wet cave water but have no idea about water safety issues. Thanks for the replies~that information helps. Doesn't sound like they take very much time at all....that said, are they even worth a stop? I do have the two books mentioned above, however I don't believe they didn't actually indicate how much time to allow for a visit.

Not sure where you're staying, but if you've planned to visit Haena Beach the dry cave is right across the street. It's worth checking out if you're already at the beach. The dry cave isn't huge, so it won't take much time to explore the whole cave.

I believe that in Ultimate Kauai they mention that you can swim in wet cave, but we just stopped for pictures. Again they're both worth seeing if you're going to be in the area, especially considering how accessible they are.

Thanks~we are staying at the vacation rental &quot;Hale Aloha&quot; in Ha'ena (it seems like several people on this forum have stayed there). From what I can tell, it seems like it is at Kepuhi Beach, very close to the dry cave, so it won't be difficult to visit at all.
