Westin Savannah

looking for info on Westin -Savannah, GA.

We stayed in the Hyatt which looked out at the Westin across the water. It is a beautiful hotel and I liked the idea of being that little bit removed from things ( if I were staying for any length of time), but only a very short boat ride to be in the middle of things. But for a short stay, it might be annoying to take a water taxi every time you go back to the hotel.. It is very luxurious and new, which appeals to me too.
Did you look at their site? The rooms are very very nice.

Check out tripadvisor.com, a ton of reviews on the Westin in Savannah.

Beautiful decor in both public spaces and rooms. Lovely views looking back at the Savannah riverfront from across the river, or if your rooms are on the other side, broad views across the marsh.

The only drawback is the trip to the historic district, a bit circuitous by car, but there's a water taxi too. The schedule was unreliable and hopefully that has improved.

It is the nicest hotel in town as long as you don't mind the trip across the river for all your activities.

thanks for the info! I have looked on tripadvisor but reviews all seem bitter. I have checked out Westin site and it looks really nice. Was wondering about water taxi, but we have car also. spending 3 nights, then going onto Jekyll Island.

I have stayed at the Westin a couple of times when the Hyatt was full and it is a gorgeous hotel. There is nothing bad I can say about it.

The only downside was we kept missing the water taxi but that was our fault not theirs.

The Westin is new and pretty and nice. A friend said the spa is lovely. The location is great if you are at a function at the adjacent convention center.

If you aren't there for a conference, etc. then the location can be a drawback. You will have to catch the water taxi over to River Street or drive your car back over the bridge to the city (and then find parking). It really depends on what you plan to do in Savannah and how much it matters to you to be in the midst of the historic district.

I just returned from the Hampton Inn in the historic district (tonight) and remain very pleased. An upsale Hampton, great location, nice rooms, high speed internet, complimentary breakfast (including eggs), honor bar in the lobby, nice decor, and rooftop pool. The best = less than a block from the Pink House. Didn't do dinner there this trip, but did have drinks and appetizers in the downstairs tavern of the oldest building in Georgia...with Gail Thurmond on piano in front of a nice fire. I like walking every where so I prefer being on the land side instead of the island (Westin).

Just returned from Savannah and stayed at the Hyatt with a riverview room-that was lots of fun. The Hyatt is in the middle of a huge renovation. We stayed in a redone room and it was pretty nice and the public areas are almost done and will be very nice. It was handy for everything. However, if I were to stay in Savannah again I would think seriously about the Mulberry-I liked it's location being removed from the tourism stuff and thought it was lovely. I can't help you much with the Westin.

lauralee, did a ship go by and look into your rooms? :)
We noticed that when we were there last June , wow..what a sight to have a huge ship slowly drift past your window ~

We were on the sixth floor so we were looking down at the ships-but still lots of fun.
I couldn't get enough of those pralines-I ate like a pig while there. The food was soooo good!

Ahh yes pralines~, I long for them myself, now and then. But I guess I am lucky they are too far to just run over and buy a box :)

We also ate at Lady and Sons, The Olde Pink House and Savannah Bistro. My favorite? The apricot glazed flounder at the Bistro!
