Westin Indianapolis
 

I will be in Indianoplis for the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I tried my hand at Priceline for the first time. The Indianapolis Westin is the hotel that I got. Does anybody know anything about it? Is it covenient for shopping? are there any good restaurants around it?

Right downtown near Circle Centre. Good restaurants, Nice place to stay

Try the California Cafe at the Circle Center Mall. Great food!

50's bar near Omni is Ike & Jonesys-great place!

Sorry Ray the California Cafe has been gone for about a year now. Didn't work out with location. The 50's bar near the Omni is Ike &amp; Jonesey's. It's a lot of fun. The Claddagh Irish pub is right next to it and is a lot of fun too. <BR><BR>The Westin is a nice hotel in a great location. It's probably been there at least 15 years so the rooms are a bit smaller than today's standard. But they've kept them up quite nicely and the “heavenly beds” are wonderful.<BR><BR>The Westin is attached by a skywalk to other downtown hotels and the circle center mall. Lots to see and do. Basic big mall with a Nordstroms and Parisian as the two anchor stores. <BR><BR>Places to eat are numerous. St. Elmo's Steakhouse, Mortons, Ruth's Chris and Shula's (which is in the Westin) are all big chunk-o-beef places. Not my personal favorite. Palomino and Malibu on Maryland are both eclectic cuisine-type places. Alcatraz Brewing which is owned by California Cafe is there with good food and not as expensive. Rock Bottom brewery is available and so is PF Changs. <BR><BR>Sadly Indy is the land of chain restaurants. To escape those downtown, I'd suggest Malibu on Maryland, Majestic Oyster Bar &amp; Grille, Kona Jack's sushi or St. Elmo's.<BR><BR>Nicky Blaine's is a cigar/martini bar. If you can stand the smoke they have live entertainment late on weekend nights.<BR><BR>In the vicinity is the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Monument Circle with a small Civil War museum in the bottom, the NCAA hall of fame, the new Indiana State museum and the Eiteljorg museum of southwest art. <BR><BR>For something a little different in shopping and dining try heading up to Massachusetts Avenue. It's a mile or so long stretch starting northeast of downtown about a half mile. Funky shopping, interesting places to eat and drink. Go to the Rathskeller in the Atheneum for good German food and beer. Also in the area is the restaurant Agio. The executive chef who used to be at California Cafe bought this place and runs it.

I'm actually staying at the Westin this Saturday night. My winning priceline bid was $58. The AAA rate on the hotel website is $149. Check out www.biddingfortravel.com.

I bid a downtown 4 star hotel for $60 but was rejected. I added the south side, knowing that there were no 4 star properties there, and increased my bid to $68, which was excepted. The cheapest rate I have found on any other site was $154.
