The Mauna Kea and all the Prince properties in Hawaii had a marketing affiliation with Westin which ended serveral years ago.

I just did a trip report on the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Click on my name to find it. It's in trip report part 1.

Hope this helps...

My guess is that they were talking about the Maui Westin resort. Kaanapali beach is regarded as one of the best beaches in Hawaii with the Westin being right in the middle of it.

I agree with golpher. When I read the second sentence I said Westin Maui and then you went on to say the BI. I don't think so. I think it's Kaanapali.

I think that gfk did mean the Big Island. Hapuna Beach is the nicest beach on the island {my opinion and others too}. Mauna Kea and Prince Hapuna Beach hotels are next to each other [both owned by Prince] amd share this beach. They are both lovely properties and the beach is wide and long by Hawaii standards.

The Westin on Ka'anapali Beach on Maui is also very nice. I stayed at both places in the past 2 weeks and they are very different hotels and beaches.

I guess we won't know until gfk comes back and posts!

thanks for the replies, but im not too sure which one was featured on the tv show.

The Mauna Kea is a nice resort on a beautiful beach. Though categorizing beaches as "best" is purely subjective there is no doubt that Kauna'oa Beach that the Mauna Kea Resort sits on is very beautiful. There is not a Westin Hotel on the BI though there is the sister property Sheraton on Keauhou Bay.

Here's a link to a review of the Mauna Kea Resort:

The Mauna Kea is a Prince hotel which I do not believe has any connections with Sheraton. Shearaton is a Starwood porperty along with Westin, W and others.

The Hapuna Beach next door is sister hotel to Mauna Kea.

Mauna Kea suffered damage from quake and while open, some rooms are off inventory. Batik restaurant is closed too.
