Western United States Road Trip
 

I am looking for suggestions. I am a college student looking to experience the Western United States and am originally from Oregon. My current plan is to start in Portland where I live, head to Spokane and eventually through Missoula. I look to do a lot of fly fishing and camping through Montana and continue through Butte, Bozeman and Billings. Eventually I will end up at mount Rushmore which is one of the main destinations I really want to see. Upon going to Rushmore I would head down to Boulder and fish there and do more outdoor activities. After that I'm headed to Jackson for a while. My trip will finish in Bend, Oregon where my parents just purchased a new home. I plan on spending roughly two months on this trip enjoying my time reading, fishing, camping, and many other activities. This seems like a decent route but is still in its early stages. Any sort of suggestion would be appreciated.

Where do you expect to fish around Boulder? I'd love to know. We have fished at Deckers south of Denver and a lot west of Denver.

Be sure to not to miss Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks.

Don't forget to fish the Deschutes River when you get to Bend.

To be completely honest I'm not entirely sure where I'm going to be fishing besides the rivers in Montana (Big Hole River, Ruby River, and the Jefferson River). I most likely going to consult my fishing guru father. I definitely will try to make it to Yellowstone again. I was there once when I was young but would love to see it again. Also, Glacier is stunning but since I was there two years ago on a Boy Scout trip so I may not go through it. The Deschutes is one of my favorites. I must have fished that river dozens of times. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yellowstone is a must. Boulder, not so much (and I live here!)
(There are so many spectacular places to visit in Colorado, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Ouray, Mesa Verde, on and on. Boulder is a pretty setting, but...)

The headwaters of the Missouri river are probably a prime fishing area. There is a campground in a state park right there, but the mosquitoes are fierce. Three Forks is the closest town, where we went for breakfast rather than have it while being swarmed by the mosquitoes.

I'm a hiker, not a fisherman, but I saw lots of people fishing in the Wind River Range during my two trips there. Not sure what fishing areas are close to road heads, but you might want to research the Winds, an absolute jewel.
