Westchester Airport to Times Square - How long by taxi?

Question for you NYers: considering flying into Westchester. How long will it take by cab to get to Times Square vicinity?

Patrick Apr 13th, 2005 08:27 AM

Sorry I don't know in terms of time, but in terms of money -- about the same time it would take to buy a new big screen plasma television.

The length of time for the trip would, naturally, depend on the time day. With normal traffic, it would be about 30-45 minutes.
And, since we're talking about a 20-25-mile trip, it wouldn't be cheap. Forget Patrick's sarcasm, but the trip could be in the $50-100 range.

Thanks Howard. I appreciate your response.

And as for Patrick....where can I pick up that plasma screen?!?

Take a taxi to the White Plains, Harrison or Rye Metro North stations and take the train into midtown.
The train is about 25-30 minutes, the taxi???

Lewis has made an excellent suggestion. (I don't know why I didn't think of it!) White Plains probably has the most--and fastest--trains to the city. It will take longer than going by cab all the way, but it'll be a lot cheaper. Once you get to Grand Central Station, it's a simple subway shuttle ride to Times Square.

I apologize that my topping a post with an obvious poor attempt at humor was regarded as sarcasm.

When this board is filled with people begging for ways to avoid paying $25 or so for a taxi from LGA, it seemed surprising to see someone talking about a taxi from Westchester without any discussion of alternative and less expensive options.

What's even funnier is that it's closer (timewise) to Manhattan than JFK, yet it never even gets mentioned in these "What NY airport should I fly into" threads.

Strangely, I have lived within an hour of Westchester Airport my entire life and have never even been there!

In response to Suzanne, the reason why Westchester Airport doesn't get that much mention here is because it's a small airport with limited options in terms of direct flights....or any flights for that matter, in relationship to the three major airports serving NYC.
It's really only convenient for people living in Westchester County and surrounding counties. And, even for them, some are closer to Stewart Airport further north near Newburgh.
