West Townshend,VT Suggestions
 

Hi,
Thinking of heading to the Windhim Hill Inn which is located in W. Townshend,Vt for a quick getaway this montn (April).. Any suggestions of things to do area the vicinity? Anyone stayed at the Inn?

Newfane has a couple of nice restaurants. The town square is gorgeous, more formal than West Townshend's. Grafton is another nice town to see, and you should visit the Grafton Cheese Co. and buy the 5 year-old cheddar. Weston is not that far, but the country store is a tourist attraption, in my opinion.

Thanks.. Just looking for something to do, browse, sightsee while there. Seems like Manchester has alot to do but not sure how far it is.

We were staying in Chester, and nothing is very far in that neck of the woods.

You could drive down to Brattleboro, lots of shops, restaurants, movie theaters, etc.

Is Newfane Inn still open? I loved that restaurant.

Whoa...there is Manchester Center, a lovely village, and Manchester...an ugly area of outlet shops. Yuck...but happily the two Manchesters, though side by side in location, are night and day apart in ambiance!!

Agree with the Grafton/Townshend/Newfane suggests...all my favorite little southern VT towns. The drive out of Grafton on 121, part dirt road, is so picturesque in the fall...have never done it at spring and with melting snow, not sure what condition the road would be in. It is perfect in the fall, smooth and hard packed--there's even a covered bridge, functional still, on one section.

Didn't know there were (2) parts of the town Manchester.. Were going in a couple of weeks so we'll see how the road conditions are. Someone told me they call it "mud" season, but since they didn't get alot of snowfall this year, its not so bad. Hopfully :0)

Yes Donna...the Manchester you want to see is Manchester village. Get directions to the Equinox Inn and you'll have found Manchester village.

Can anyone make recommendations on dining in the area?

Mud season is pretty much done. It's been very dry and warm. Towns in our area of NH have started grading dirt roads. It should be similar in VT. The worst mud is caused by the frost coming out of the ground and lasts the longest on shady roads.
