West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale or just one
We're visiting relatives in West Palm Beach, and were also thinking of splitting the trip, and spending some time in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area over this Christmas break.
Is it worth going another 65 miles south? Is there more to do down near Ft. Lauderdale, or should we just stick to staying in or near West Palm Beach the whole time. This is a family trip with teens. Enjoy beach (might be too cold!) and golf. Any suggestions very much appreciated!
Also, specific resort or nice hotel recommendations are very welcome.

The Deerfield Beach area is nice. You have Boca Raton right there and a nice beach. There are many condos to rent on vrbo in that area.
If you are looking for something to do around West Palm, the Lion Country Safari animal park is fun. They have both a park where you can walk around and feed giraffes and ride things, and then a very nice drive through animal park. They keep the rhinos out and not in cages, so it is very cool.

Actually, if you like beach then you will not want to stay in West Palm Beach but Palm Beach. WPB is inland and PB is the barrier island.
Personally I like Singer Island the best out of all of them. It is the barrier island next door to PB. Nothing like Thursday night at Sailfish Marina (fabulous restaurant) or snorkeling Peanut Island.
See if the manatees still go to the power plant.
For that short of time, I would stay put.
