West Nile Virus & Hotel Pools

Considering the recent deaths in Louisiana caused by the west nile virus & the fact that water is where mosquitoes breed, has hotels in Louisiana [rooftop pool of Omni Royal for instance] closed down its pools?

If not, how do they prevent the mosquitoes from using pool water to breed?

just a guess, but maybe sodium dicloro
s-triazinetrione dihydrate

chlorine, in other words

it should also render any pee in the pool harmless

The mosquitos bite and that is how they transmit the disease - you can not catch it be swimming where mosquitoes are or were. Also, mosquitos breed in undisturbed pools of water - the larva could not survive in a frequently stirred up pool, even if they made it through the chlorine and the filter, which I doubt they could.

Wear insect repellant outside (not in the pool!)

Not to worry. All the little kids peeing in the pools kill the virus.

Mosquitos are not really going to breed in a swimming pool where the chlorine level is up & the filter keeps the water circulating. Also the areas have stepped up their spraying from both the air & ground. My advice is to wear some mosquito spray & try to avoid places like the river at dawn & dusk. You should be fine.

Lets not react to this West Nile virus like Chicken Little, please, fearful of creeping around anywhere. I live in an area with west nile outbreaks each summer. If you let fear of that rule your life you'd better hole up completely. That odds of contracting something like that are very very low! You are far more likely to get mugged by in a bad area of NO, seriously injured in a car wreck, anything, before you get west nile virus!! I'd go live on the bayou before I'd go into some NO streets at night!!

Far greater dangers lurk in those pools. Alligators and venomous water mocassins for example. Not to mention the dreaded jellyfish that crawls out of my son's nose on occassion.
