West Hollywood - Which Hotel?
 

I'm looking to come to West Hollywood for 6 nights end July and can't decide between 3 hotels - The London, The Beverley Hills Plaza or the Le Parc Suite Hotel. The first two are a bit pricey, but look great and the Le Parc, although cheaper, seems good too. Any advice?? I am travelling from the UK with my Husband and children 17 and 12. we'll be moving down to the beach afterwards. Would we need a car for the first part of this trip?

Of the three, I suppose the London, although I'm not in love with any of the locations. If memory serves, the BH Plaza and Parc Suites are not particularly close to much in the way of shops, restaurants etc., and the London (which I think might be a converted apartment building) while close to Sunset, is not in the most interesting part of the area. I definitely think you'd need a car at any of them, but that pretty well goes for any stay in LA in my view.

I might make a couple of alternate suggestions. First, consider bidding for two rooms at the four-star level using Priceline, selecting Beverly Hills as your zone. You can use www.Priceline.co.uk , and if unfamiliar with the Priceline bidding process, educate yourself at www.betterbidding.com or www.bidingfortravel.com. You might save enough to cover the car price.

Second, have a look at the Farmer's Daughter, http://www.farmersdaughterhotel.com/ . It's located in West LA, not West Hollywood, but things are quite close in that part of town. The Farmer's Daughter is an updated classic motel with a superb location - across the street from the Farmers Market, which offers lots of shopping and dining alternatives; it's close to a couple of great shopping centers and plenty of walkable cafes etc., and it's also across the street from the CBS television studios, where you might be able to attend a taping of a show. A very popular American quiz show, <i>The Price is Right</i> is taped there, and many contestants stay at the Farmer's Daughter (with a fun photo gallery attesting to their successes.)

Otherwise, check out Beverly Hills for your hotel choices - there are many, and most will be more convenient than the 3 hotels you've mentioned.

And again, yes, I think a car is required, especially with four of you.

The Farmer's Daughter is a funky and fun place, but it's hard to imagine it mentioned in a post asking about places like the London and Beverly Hills Plaza. While it is convenient to Farmer's Market -- in a 6 night trip I can't imagine spending that much time at Farmer's Market. I'm assuming you will have a car -- LA is ALL ABOUT driving.
I actually like the Parc Suites in a residential neighborhood and gated indoor parking. It's more like being in a private apartment than it is a hotel, which to me is really nice for almost a week long stay. The Chamberlain (a former sister hotel to LeParc) is a similar hotel in a little nicer neighborhood to me, and recently remodeled. I haven't stayed at Park Suites in a long time now, so not sure how nicely redone the rooms are there.

We just stayed at Le Parc in a redone room in June. It was great! The bathroom alone was a little 3 "room" affair with a huge--for a hotel--walk-in closet with a bureau in it, an area with the sink and a separate room with the tub and toilet.

Then the LR/BR had a full complement of furniture for both rooms--no wall between but the BR was up one step with a little railing-type half wall, and there was an adjoining kitchenette and an outdoor deck.

We are going back for 4 nights in March.

If you go, be sure to get one of the redone rooms, altho by now, they may all have been redone.

The London is really fabulous. I took a tour of the hotel right after it opened and loved it. Luxurious and well appointed. The rooftop pool deck has incredible views of the city. The BH Plaza and Parc Suites are good hotels, but not in the same category as the London.

The Parc Suites and The London are pretty central in West Hollywood and you can easily walk to shops and restaurants. BH Plaza is in a more residential area, but a short drive from the sights of Beverly Hills.

Yes, you definitely need a car.

I am going to dissuade you from the Farmer's Daughter. It's a motel that's been dressed up with some trendy accessories and not worth the price. Just my personal opinion. You might check out The Avalon Hotel on Olympic Blvd. near just south of Beverly Hills. They usually have rooms around $200 range and it's walking distance to all the Beverly Hills restaurants and shops.
