I will be driving from Ft. Lauderdale and want to spen 2 nights in Naples. Were to stay for a moderate price? Being on the beach is inportant. Do the hotels have parking ? Would like to walk to shops and restrauants?

Try Vanderbuilt Beach Club or vanderbuilt beach resort 2 separate places both have nice beaches and are inexpensive

Unfortunately, you can't do both- stay on the beach and walk to shops. The two best hotels on the beach are La Playa (nicer) and the Naples Beach & Golf hotel. Both are right on the water.

The "in" place for shops and restaurants is central or "olde" Naples -- Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South. There are no beach front hotels within walking distance, as that area of beach is all private homes. The nearest is the big Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Resort, but it is about a 16 block walk to the first restaurant of Fifth Avenue South.

Vanderbilt Beach area of motels and hotels (including LaPlaya) is up to a 30 minute drive to central Naples.

The alternative if you want to be in the "thick of things" is to stay in one of the hotels not on the beach (since there aren't any on the beach). Escalante and the Inn on Fifth are the best alternatives there (free parking).
