Weekend trip out of Seattle!
Planning a weekend trip, with my adventurous father, husband and 1 year old son. We're quite impulsive and spontaneous, love wandering around, being outdoors, shopping, and a nice meal certainly helps! Which of these options will make for a fun, easy to manage weekend? We'll be based in Seattle.
1. Whidbey Island 2. Olmpic Peninsula 3. Victoria THANKS!!! |
I was very fond of Victoria for wandering around and shopping. For the nature lover in you, a drive out of Victoria along the western coast is amazing.
I don't know about the other places and will leave that to the others. I never did find the ferry that went from Victoria to Seattle, so this may be a bit of a trek, but others might know better. Our return ferry took us from Victoria to Port Angeles, and it was quite a drive back to Seattle. |
I like Captain Whidbey Inn, on Whidbey Island for a weekend get-away.

I suggest you go to the Olympic Peninsula. Visit Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, and Marymere Falls.
Spend the night in Port Angeles. The next day take the fast ferry to Victoria. When you get back from Victoria, have dinner at the Thai restaurant near the ferry. On the way back to Seattle, take a detour into the lovely little Victorian town of Port Townsend. |
We'd love to drive down to the Olympic Peninsula, hadn't thought of adding Victoria to the same trip! It's not too much for a weekend? If we're just looking to stroll and enjoy, can Victoria be seen in an afternoon? Also, would it be more fun to spend the night in Port Angeles, or Victoria?
Thanks much!! |
It is more fun to stay in Victoria than Port Angeles; however, the weekend itinerary I suggested works best with two nights in Port Angeles--going to Victoria on the fast ferry in the morning and returning in the evening.
The Red Lion Inn in Port Angeles is the ideal place to stay for this weekend. This is an older property which has its problems (see www.tripadvisor.com); however, the rooms with views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca are large and the one we stayed in recently had been redecorated. Somebody complained about the long drive from Port Angeles to Seattle. I suspect it may have been because they did the drive following the ferry ride. |
I was the one who mentioned the long drive from Port Angeles to Seattle. I got lost too. Never a good thing.
