Weekend trip from Boston

I'll need to be in Boston for a meeting on July 3rd, but am thinking of taking this opportunity to take my family (with a 9 month old baby) to nearby beaches/towns for a short vacation. Any suggestions on locatiosn and place to stay? We will be traveling by car, and plan to spend the weekend in the area, and are looking for beach, resort, or some relaxing activities (doesn't have to be lots of sightseeing...but would be nice to be by the waters).

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, this weekend is part of the Fourth of July holiday, and you may have trouble finding a place to stay.

Are you planning to arrive early and leave after your meeting on the 3rd or are you planning to arrive on the 3rd and leave for vacation later that day?

What is your budget? And is the beach the real thing or do you just want to be on the water?

If you don't mind the drive, York Beach in Maine is a popular family beach area. We particularly liked the beach near the arcade area because there was grass, playground and benches. It's traditional to watch the taffy pulling machine at the Goldenrod and buy saltwater taffy to take home and to walk up to Nubble Light.

Rockport, MA is a nice short getaway. Wingaersheek beach or Good Harbor beach are both nice beaches, finding accomodations for that weekend though might be a bit of a challenge. Crane's Beach is also very nice with the nearby Inn at Castle Hill.

Nantasket beach in Hull, MA has a great beach with a hotel right on the beach. They changed their name to "Nantasket Beach Resort" it is not a resort in the true sense of a resort. The water is swimable, meaning it isn't "wicked" cold like Maine. I don't know if there are rooms available. There used to be ferry service from Boston to Hull. This would be cool if you don't want to rent a car. I'm sure if you contact the hotel they could help you with the shuttle from the ferry to the hotel.

4th of July weekend?? With a baby? And you're just now planning?
Obviously the BIG celebration is held in Boston, along the Esplanade. However I suspect that many other towns throughout New England will be having festivities, w/ some on Sat (7/2), while others may be on Sun (7/3) or on Mon (7/4).

Commodore Inn (motel), Wet Harwich, Cape Cod

Um, that would be WEST Harwich. Even tho they have a pool and the ocean is 1 minute away.
