Weekend road trip from Omaha
I am itching to get away for 2-3 days, and want to know somewhere cool I can reach from Omaha. I've previously driven 9 hours out to Mount Rushmore before, so that type of distance is perfectly reasonable. I'd love to check out Canada (Winnipeg), or Minnesota, but am open to anything. Just want to find a unique trip that I can take to have some fun, see something interesting, and just relax and have some downtime.

Have fun, see something interesting? That might mean Chicago or on the other hand the Ozarks (where I was born and where I lived until moving to Boston). Really though if driving why not seek out nearby Lake Okoboji in Iowa or Kansas City.

The eastbound California Zephyr leaves Omaha about 5:14AM and is in Chicago by 3PM (usually 9.5 hours).
The westbound CZ leaves Omaha about 11:30PM and is in Denver 9 to 9.5 hours later. The Denver station has been remodeled and is beautiful.

From a former Husker: You're about a day's drive from northwest Arkansas. I would go to Bentonville to visit Crystal Bridges art museum and Pea Ridge Civil War park and then drive over to Eureka Springs to spend the night in a Victorian B and B. On the way back, stop in Kansas City for some good barbecue.
