Weekend outings on the east coast
 

*points above* Exactly what the title says. :) My boyfriend and I live in New York, and although we lack the time to take full week-long (or more) vacations, we do love to get away for a leisurely weekend of touring. We love scenic drives (since a nice convertible is available to us), wineries, antiquing, museums, good restaurants, beautiful scenery (organic or man-made), and being pampered overnight at any good inn/B&B/small hotel. <BR> <BR>So, please...any and all suggestions are welcome!

Amanda, take a weekend to drive up I91 into Vermont. This is a beautiful drive. You will see some of the most unspoiled countryside in New England, both in Vermont and New Hampshire, just across the river. There are hundreds of B&B's and farmhouse inns in the Connecticut River valley. Drive up the Mt. Ascutney auto road for an unforgettable view. Great hiking trails on Ascutney also. Check out the town of Hanover NH, a very cosmopolitan little college town set in rural New Hampshire, with wonderful restaurants.

For wineries, check out the Finger Lakes Region near Ithaca. There are plenty of wineries to choose from and Ithaca is a great town (home to Cornell Univ. and Ithaca Collge).

It takes me exactly 4.5 hours to drive to NYC from the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire; is that too long a drive for you? If it isn't, you should come here. There was an article in an early June Sunday NY Times with recommendations of places to stay, restaurants, and what to do. The list is amazing, from art galleries, restaurants, hiking, kayaking, shops, theatre, and on and on. If you would like more specifics, let me know.
