Weekend in San francisco

I have been here a few times and visited most of the popular tourist spots. Looking for fun things that might not be found in tourist books. Music clubs, or other interesting ideas would be appreciated. I will be there in April.

Go to sfgate.com and check out clubs, events, etc.

I like Biscuits and Blues:

Also check out the Empire Plush room and the Warfield.

Also check out the Cafe Du Nord and the Independent. One of faves, Spencer Day played those two clubs in the fall.

Thanks for your help. Any thoughts on different type things or unusual that would be San francisco style?

Ferry Building marketplace is popular with locals and tourists. Includes several restaurants and food shops all the time, but there is a big farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Great people watching and food stands (primavera in the back market is great). Taylors Refresher (great burgers and wine) is a great spot for lunch as you can sit outside on the Embarcadero. Slanted Door is also located in Ferry Building.

For a good walk with views, go from Crissy Field out to Fort Point (base of Golden Gate bridge).

Otherwise, there are some cool shopping/neighborhoods off the beaten path: Hayes Street in Hayes Valley (hippest area), Union Street (my least favorite). There are also some great restaurants off the beaten path (Firefly on 24th street, Delfinas in the Mission, Frascati on Russian Hill). Enjoy

Get ahold of the book "Stairway Walks of San Francisco." You will love taking a couple of those walks! Very unique views of the City.

Elnap,
I got the book Stairway Walks of San Francisco. Thank you for the tip.

Mike,
I don't know if the stairway walks book has been updated to include the mosaic stairs at 16th Avenue and Moraga Street. At any rate, check this site out: www.tiledsteps.org
The entire Golden Gate heights neighborhood is riddled with staircase streets - it's a good 'hood to watch the sunset from.

dovima,
Thanks, that really looks interesting.

Take a look at the restaurant/club called Asia SF. It is fun for some...but not for everyone. We have had guests who have really loved it...but some squares that have not.
