weekend in NYC Millenium Hotel
Traveking to NYC with the family (wife + 2 teenage boys) Got a room at the Millenium hotel through Priceline - now i'm beginning to think I made a mistake. Is it too far from the beaten path. first time for the boys, so we want to try and see a lot over the weekend (Yankee game, times square, Staten Island Ferry, etc.)any thoughts??

WHich Millenium? There are 3 of them (UN, Times Sq and Wall ST/WTC area). No one location is near everything, but any of these locations are near subways to get you anywhere you want to go. If you are staying at the Wall St location, you are a short walk to the ferry, also very close to the South Street Seaport, Battery Park, Hudson River Park, World FInancial Center/Winter Garden, Museum of the American Indian, Holocaust Museum, Police Museum, Fire Museum, etc. You also are not far from the Brooklyn Bridge, CHinatown and little Italy.
Times Sq is the most typical tourist location, but not a bit crowded and noisy, with many tourist oriented restaurants and stores, that tend to be overpriced with mediocre quality, so not staying there is really not a negative. |
I meant to say "but a bit", not "but not a bit"

We stayed at the UN location.
Was a bit far from "the beaten path", except for the UN, duh, but you're only 2-3 blocks to Grand Central and taxis were plentiful at the hotel and still pretty cheap. Not really that far of walk to Times Sq/Broadway, especially for teenage boys. Very nice walk too. Can't wait to go back! |
If you got the Times Square location you will love it. Ask for a view of the square where something is always happening day or night. If they are into music MTV tapes there and there is a hugh Virgin Records. Easy walk to Rockerfeller Center, and subways right there for easy connect anywhere. For kid friendly and moderately priced food in the area go to John's Pizza, the deli accross the street from the hotel, and of course breakfast from a bagel cart on just about any corner.

Sorry, should have been more specific. We're staying at the Wall St/WTC location. Any ideas of what we can walk to vs. subway trips (Subway to Yankee Stadium I know)We like to walk as long as it's not miles and miles.

You should be in walking distance of the Staten Island ferry, not too far from the South Street Seaport, Chinatown and Tribeca. The hotel has an indoor pool. Relax and enjoy.

Anything Midtown or north (Times Square, Empire State Building, major museums, broadway shows etc) will be a subway ride (although for 4 a cab might not be too much more) unless you want to walk several miles each way. But the subway is really fast and easy - just be sure you get a good map and buy one of the transit passes.
