Weekend in Dallas
 

Hello, I'll be in dallas from thursday to monday in mid january and am wondering what todo in the big D. I've never been to texas and am not sure where i am staying as of yet. I'll be at a conference during the days. Any ideas.

Where are you from?

Can you tell us what your interests are? Art? Architecture? Western? Shopping? Outdoors?

Also, do you plan on renting a car? If you're <b>not</b> renting a car, knowing where you'll be staying will be important to know.

I'm a big fan of the arts &amp; culture scene in Dallas. In Dallas, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center are worth visiting. There will be a Matisse show beginning Jan 21st. The Meadows Museum at the SMU has a wonderful Spanish collection.

In Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Fort Worth Modern are not to be missed - not only the permanent collections, but also the buildings themselves are pieces of art.

Of course, most visitors to Dallas go to the JFK Sixth Floor Museum.

If you like classical music, check out the schedule for the Dallas Symphony and the Dallas Opera.

I enjoy, history, art, nightlife, food, maybe shopping. I'll probably have a car so I would like to see texas anything drive near dallas that is worthwhile??? The trip is a few monthes away just looking for an overview. Thanks!

absolutely go to the Sixth Floor Museum. I was very impressed with how well it was done and presented. I think the Nasher sculpture museum is fabulous as well. I havne't been to the Dallas Museum of art in a long time so can't comment on it.

Dallas has lots of great shopping and eating which if you are in a conference all day may be all you get to do.

If you have some time, you could drive over to Ft. Worth, it's not a bad drive 45 minutes to an hour. Ft. Worth has a totally different feel than Dallas. All the museums there are very good and the stockyards are supposed to be neat if you want to see a little bit of the old west texas view.

The Fort Worth Stock Show &amp; Rodeo usually takes place in mid-January so consider spending part of your time there. If that doesn't interest you visit the Fort Worth Stock Yards, The Cow Girl Hall of Fame and Museum and the Cattle Raiser Museum (all in Fort Worth) to get a tast of the old west.

There are plenty of places to eat in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex - give us an idea of your particular tastes and budget so we can make suggestions or use the search feature above for Dallas restaurant info - much has been written on this forum.

For shopping visit the Galleria, the Higland Park shopping area, the Decorator's Mart (sorry can't remember the &quot;official&quot; name), North Park Mall, or any number of the big shopping malls around Dallas/Fort Worth. .

You mentioned &quot;you'd probably have a car&quot; - to really experience all that Dallas has to offer you should change the word &quot;probably&quot; to &quot;Definitely&quot;. Dallas is pretty spread out.
