Agreed. I paid $74 a night for the Hyatt on East Wacker last March using Hotwire. Check all your options, but staying downtown is definitely worth it. (I'm totally with you on the cold, though. Even in March it was too frigid for my Southern self!)

Joelleinitaly04, wouldn't it be nice to just jump over these next few months to the dawn of a new spring?
Anyway, do keep the Travelzoo specials in mind. You are dealing with the hotels themselves.
And, if you are driving in, I'm not so sure I'd definitively recommend staying downtown. You'll be paying mucho bucks for parking, even if you park, say, at Millennium Garage or Sterling Self-Park, which are considerably lower than others.
But I did want to mention a couple of things to look forward to, depending on when your spring break will be.
In March: The Chicago Garden Show is at Navy Pier March 7th through the 15th. As all of us Midwesterners know, seeing those beautiful flowers and wondrous gardens after a long, bleak winter is a boost to the temperament and a boon to the soul.
April through September: The Museum of Science and Industry will be premiering the "Harry Potter" exhibition. I'm fairly certain you know how popular this will be. I believe that the tickets will run $26 for adults (which include general admission).

So this is the weekend we were going to go to Chicago, but I decided to stay home ...considering we have sleet now...probably a good idea. But I will keep the suggestions in mind and perhaps a spring visit...
