Weekend in Atlanta

I will be in Atlanta, GA Easter weekend. I will be staying downtown and have a car. Looking for live music venues, blues, bluegrass, folk, a place where I can find a seat :) Any thoughts on the Atlanta Dogwood Festival? Finally how about Easter Sunday sunrise service (denomination does not matter)?

You might try Little Five Points for live music venues.

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is always good and there will be live music there, too.

For a sunrise service, you might ask your hotel which local churches have one. There may also be one at Stone Mountain.

Do you have to stay downtown?

For folk music, check out smoke-free Eddie's Attic in very cool downtown Decatur (15 minutes from downtown). Lots of great restaurants nearby.

Check Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points http://www.variety-playhouse.com/ for what will be showing that weekend. Not a fancy place but nice venue. Red Light Cafe http://www.redlightcafe.com/ can occasionally get good performers as well. Other options can be found at http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/index

Thank you all very much. One last question, how hard will Braves tickets be to get?

padams421 Apr 3rd, 2006 09:49 AM

It should not be difficult to get Braves tickets. Many Atlantans don't get too excited about the Braves until playoffs.

Good suggestions above.

Braves tickets - easy to get

Easter Sunrise Service at Stone Mountain - here's the link

Eddie's Attic is a great suggestion. Park you car and walk around downtown Decatur. Lots of great restaurant choices beforehand.

Atlanta Dogwood Festival is great - but it's April 7-9. Unless you are coming in early, you will miss it.

The new GA Aquarium is great if you are at all interested.

If you are looking for blues in Atlanta you will be hard pressed. Check out Blind Willies in Virg. Highlands or for a dive bar with blues, Northside Tavern in West Midtown/Howell Mill Rd. Eddie's Attic, Red Light and Variety Playhouse are all good suggestions for live music, and you could also check to see who is playing at Smith's Olde Bar...
