Weekend getaway idea for the 2nd week of August
 

I would like to go on a weekend getaway (August 13-15) with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. I live in NY and I want to go somewhere that is not more than 3 hours away by car and that doesn't cost the same as a regular vacation. Any suggestions?

If people are going to help we need to have a better idea of your budget. Not sure what a "regular vacation" costs - it depends on if you're spending the day at Coney Island or a week in paris.

Also some clue as to interests - beach, hiking, historic monuments, scenery etc - would help.

I would ride up the Hudson Valley to around West Point....

If you want to spend more than a regular vacation, try the Watch Hill Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. Looks lovely and is in a beautiful setting.

If you want glitz, try one of the casinos, look to see if there is a show that you would like at either of them and then look on line for a package deal.

For music or dance, go to the Lenox, MA area.

Head for Boston for some history.

Hit Cape Cod for seashore.
