weekend getaway from Atlanta

I want to surprise my husband with three days/two nights away from the kids. I'm flexible re: destination, but we don't want to spend all of our time driving--so that either means a 2-3 hour car ride or a quick, cheap flight out of Atlanta. Looking for romantic setting, but he would probably like to bring his golf clubs too. Any great ideas for me? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There are nice honeymoon-type cabins in the North Georgia Mountains by Blue Ridge. Websites:www.thelastresort.com or www.blackbearcabinrentals.com
Also have enjoyed the Cashiers/Highlands area of North Carolina. It's only a 45 minute flight from Atlanta to Jacksonville, Florida and then you could go up the Georgia Coast or to St. Augustine, Florida. Whatever you do I hope you have a great time.

I would try Helen (only an hour drive or so for you) or the Gatlinburg area. There are also other great areas of Northern Georgia, South-west NC and South east TN to go to. Another neat area would be Hiawassee. It all depends on what you want to do the whole time you are there. Do you want to be alone in a secluded area? Do you want to do outdoors stuff (hiking etc)? Do you want to shop or stay in a hotel type of place? It all depends on what you want to do. I would suggest a cabin near the Smoky Mtns. That way, you can do outdoors stuff or go over to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for some shopping and a nice dinner.

The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Great golf course and club for him and while he is golfing, you can use the terrific spa facilities. Afterwards, a message for two!

This time of year I would not want to go north for golf. How about Calloway Gardens near Pine Mountain, a little north of Columbus?
It is famous for golf, and the gardens always have something to see.

Are you talking about soon? I second the idea of Calloway Gardens. And they do the Christmas season up big.

One spot we've been dying to try is Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, GA. It is a quick ride NW of Atlanta on 75. They have golf, fly fishing, horseback riding, and the most romantic looking "cottages". It has gotten rave reviews, but it is not cheap. Check it out on their website - www.barnsleyinn.com. Have fun whatever you do.
