weekend from boston
Hi folks,,we're going into Boston for the Dem Convention and will finish and leave early Friday morning. We're, wife and I, looking for a beach for a couple of days of r and r without children or politics. Any suggestions. We had thought of Martha;s Vineyard, Nantucket, newport Beach or Maine.

Highly depends upon what you would find most appealing. My recommendation would be Maine rather than anywhere on the Cape (which is a positive nightmare in July/August), or Rockport, Newburyport, Marblehead, MA, or Portsmouth, NH.
If by "beach" you mean sand and sun, Hampton Beach, NH is a fine destination. |
Hampton Beach is fine? That must be a new definition of the word "fine" that I'm not aware of.
;-) I would suggest Nantucket if you are looking for a world-class beach. G. |
There are many beautiful beaches. Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, RI, Maine, Cape Ann. It depends on what you want to do. If you would like a fun, honky tonk atmosphere with lots to do and a nice beach then I think that Hampton is a good choice. If you would like a rugged somewhat isolated beach with the water very cold then I think ME would be a good choice. The Cape is full of tourists but that does not negate the beauty of the beaches. Same with Nan., MV, and RI. Just about everywhere will be crowded. If you are from the Midwest, everywhere will be beautiful. If you are not, you may feel that we are ridiculous to even say that we have beaches to compare with VA, NC, SC, GA, FL.

Hello!
What about Kennebunkport, ME? It has beautiful beaches.. many hotels and a cute town to walk around. Also, close to Wells and Oguinquit. It is only about 1+ hours from Boston. I agree the cape traffic will be a nightmare. -Amy |
Welcome to Boston, we are almost ready for you.....I would defnetely head down to the Newport area and the beaches. the Cape is way overpriced, Maine is too crowded and much of the population of M.V. and Nantucket will have been at the convention..lol

Well, that's funny, "Maine is overcrowded??" I guess it depends where you go. So Newport wouldn't be overcrowded??? My suggestion would be drive up to Maine, go to the Ogunquit/Wells area. Lot's of sand and sun, nice walks, nice stores, good food. You can't beat a nice sunny weekend in Maine, just make sure to make reservation early. Also, they just did a turnpike widening on the northbound lane of 95, so a lot more traffic can be handled now. Have fun!!!
