Weekend before Thanksgiving
 

We will be in the city next weekend. Plan on seeing two shows. Any other suggestions? I have been there in the summer but not when it is cold. Love everything about the city. Loved birdland on Monday night but we will there Friday and Saturday. Anything like that available?? Will any windows be decorated for Christmas?
Would you recommend top of the rock? Any other places to see the city at night?
Anything going on special that weekend? Love all your ideas. BTW we are staying at the Westin. Any eating places nearby to recommend. Thanks again.

YES I would recommend Top of the Rock. also Staten Island Ferry at night. More ideas here (Note - CANstruction) will be adding more soon. MET museum is open late Friday and Saturday.

For something closer to a piano bar setting, Don't Tell Mama on restaurant row (46th st between 8th & 9th) is very close to your hotel and can be fun. You might also have a look on goldstar.com and see if any of the discounts for next weekend appeal to you. Lots to chose from.

YES to Top of the Rock. You can buy a combo ticket with MOMA that's good value if you're interested in going to MOMA.

Marseille is a good French bistro a block from your hotel. Ca Va, the new French opened in the new Intercontinental hotel across from yours is getting very good reviews. Have fun!

I read about Canstruction that sounds neat. Where is it? Has anyone gotten standby tickets for regis and kelly? If so, what time do you realllllly need to be there to up your chances. Glad to hear some windows will be up.

Make sure you dress warmly for the Top of the Rock. It gets cold up there.........but the views are worth it!

Just passed Bloomies and the paper covering the windows has Nov 18 on it - presumably the date they will be unveiled.

Not sure how cold it will be - this weekend is very warm - so don't assume it will be freezing.

You can have a look at the New York Magazine web sit e- which lists all sorts of activities by date and category.

In addition to CANstruction, my favorite ARTwalk - The Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tours is doing a big event in one space on Broadway from Nov 17-30th.

Lots of good casual restaurants if you head over to 9th Ave and north instead of staying on 8th...

* Many Thai places, basically all of them good (though my fave is the hole in the wall Pam's Real Thai on 49th just west of 9th).
* Film Center Cafe around the corner and across the street from Marseille has a good burger and old-cinematic-world ambiance.
* Marseille is good but be aware it can be noisy.
* If you want a little walk for breakfast (or afternoon snack!), Amy's Bread on the east side of 9th Ave between 46th/47th is renowned for all kinds of baked goods and their red velvet cupcakes (but everything even the granola is yummy!); get coffee etc for takeaway or sit at one of the small tables in the back.

Regardless of where you go, MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!!!!!!!! Today if possible. Even at Film Center Cafe. This is an incredibly busy weekend in NYC, and unless you want to waste a lot of time, you need to plan things a bit more than you normally would.

I think most windows (except for Macy's) will be decorated and open.
