You have said your trip will be in March but I don't think you specified what time in the month. If it is at the end of March you could be there for the Cherry Blossom Festival (March 20 to April 12). We were there last spring over the last weekend in March which turned out to be the peak time for the blossoms. The Tidal Basin area with the monuments along it was really crowded. There is a big kite festival on the grounds of the Washington Monument on March 28.
